Elias Salleh is a Professional Architect registered with the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM). He has an extensive working experience of over 30 years in local universities, specialising in architectural education.
He has served in various academic and management capacities since 1974, beginning at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), before being appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in 1999. Subsequently, he served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) in the same university until his mandatory retirement in June 2003. He now serves Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a Professor in Architecture. As a lecturer in architecture he specialises in the application of Environmental Science in architectural education, and on sustainable architecture studies. He attended a 2-year Masters course in Building Science at the University of Sydney NSW Australia. Subsequently he studied for his PhD at the Architectural Association Graduate School of Architecture in London researching into the thermal environment of tropical urban street canyons. His current research interests are in sustainable building envelopes, solar-induced ventilation and sustainable building assessment methods. While serving Universiti Teknologi Malaysia he was given the opportunity to spearhead initiatives relating to university-industry linkages through the establishment of The Bureau of Innovation and Consultancy (a university clearing house for commercialization), Uni-Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (a commercial arm of the university), and finally UTM Technovation Park (a university-based technology park). Concurrently, he is active in the education activities of the Board of Architects Malaysia, where he is a member of the ‘Council of Architectural Education Malaysia’.
